An original pair of 1930s British made woollen long johns in unworn condition.
This style of long johns was extremely popular in the UK throughout the first half of the 20th Century. They are made from an oatmeal coloured wool which is machine knitted. They feature a buttoning front and have loops at the waist which trousers braces are passed through to hold the garment in position. To the rear there is a tab at the waist with two button positions allowing to make the fit a smaller waist.
Inside the item the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the maker's name of 'Chilprufe' and the size of 40. The size usually seems to correlate with the wearer's chest size more closely than waist size! When laid flat they measure 20" across the waist.
The long johns have clearly never been worn and could be described as 'new old stock'. They display very well but are of course a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice original pair of long johns with a great period label.
