A rare original British sports shirt dating from the 1930s.
This shirt is typical of those worn for sports and sometimes as casual wear by men in Great Britain during the 1930s and 1940s. Made from a white coloured poplin cotton; the shirt features a large collar, patch pocket to the breast and short sleeves. It is of half placket design as was usual in the first half of the 20th century before being slowly replaced by full button front shirts from the 1950s onwards.
Inside the shirt the original label is still present and bears the makers name of 'Leonard Lyle' along with the tagline of 'Lylezone' and a London address.
The shirt is a medium size which will suit a 38" - 40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 23"
Shoulders - 19"
Length at back - 36 1/2"
It is important to remember that these shirts are cut very wide across the chest to allow them to be pulled on over the head so the true fit will be much smaller than the measurement provided.
The shirt is in reasonable condition but has some staining, mainly to the collar, as can be seen in the pictures. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn shirt which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A rare original pre-war British sports shirt!
