An original womens serge wool short overcoat dating from the 1920s.
This coat is made from a black serge wool and is half lined with a khaki coloured cotton drill which is all hand stitched. It is possible that the coat is home made but if this is the case it was done so by someone who was very skilled. The narrow button displacement is typical of the 1920s as are the pockets and pocket flaps. The design is quite sporting for its time and the coat most likely originated in the northern part of mainland Europe.
When laid flat the coat measures -
Chest - 19 3/4"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 15 3/4"
Length - 29 1/2"
The coat is in good condition considering its age and is very wearable. It does however have a few holes etc as detailed in the pictures. Please bear in mind that this item is nearly 100 years old and has small issues consummate with this.
All in all a great looking early women's coat, ideally suit to the colder months. This would make a great addition to any wardrobe or collection!
