A nice original men's waistcoat which was made in France in the early part of the 20th Century.
This waistcoat is made from a herringbone twill cotton which features a golden yellow striped pattern on a mushroom coloured field. It features three welt pockets to the front which is typical of French waistcoats from this period and it fastens with five brown coloured corozo buttons. The low neckline would suggest that this was made in the 1920s although it may date from an earlier decade. The interior of the waistcoat is lined and the rear features the usual cinch-back belt and buckle arrangement which fastens with a double pronged metal buckle.
The waistcoat is a rare larger size which will suit up to a 40" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 20 1/2"
Shoulders - 14 1/2"
Length - 22"
The waistcoat is in good condition for its age, especially when considering that it is over 100 years old. It is still very wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice early waistcoat with all the classic details associated with this period.
