A nice original ladies nurse's work dress dating from around the 1920s.
The style of dress was very popular for a number of years with a variety of nursing organisations and the cut and fabric is typical of the time. The dress is made from a lightweight sky blue coloured cotton which features a selvedge as illustrated in picture 7. It features a large collar which is typical of early garments from the Edwardian period and into the 1920s. The front fastens with buttons which are again typical of the period and there are three patch pockets to the front of the dress, all of which differ in shape and size. There is a brass hook and eye which fastens the collar and the original owner has added the name to the interior which reads 'Lake'.
When laid flat the dress measures -
Breast - 18"
Waist 18"
Hips - 21 1/2"
Shoulders - 12"
Length 44"
The condition of the dress is very good for its age. There are no rips, tears or any other serious damage. There are some signs of wear and age which are to be expected from a vintage item dating from this period. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
All in all a nice early 20th Century work dress with some great period details.
