A fantastic original duck cotton workwear raincoat which was made in France during the 1940s.
Duck cotton was a popular material for outwear in France during the mid Century period but was usually used for short jackets rather than long macintosh raincoats such as this. The heavy cotton canvas material is well suited to the outdoors offering good waterproof and windproof qualities. It is a classic tan khaki colour which was often used during this period and the coat features a large collar which is again a common feature with French work jackets at this time. There is also a metal hook and eye to fasten the collar at the neck. The front of the coat fastens with butterscotch coloured corozo buttons and features a fly front. Two large D-shaped pockets are located to the skirt and there are adjustable straps fitted to the end of each cuff which again fasten with buttons. The underside of the collar features a simple throat latch and the rear features a single vent.
The coat is cut in a loose, oversize manner meaning it could suit a number of sizes depending on desired fit from a 38" chest to a 42" chest. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 26 1/2"
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 21 1/2"
Shoulders - 21"
Length at back - 43 1/2"
The coat is in good wearable condition with signs of wear and use. There is no serious damage or flaws but there is some staining and hand sewn repairs to each cuff. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn vintage item which has some small flaws commensurate with age.
A fantastic original workwear coat with some great details.
