An original Early Second World War Royal Navy Ratings 'Jumper, Serge'.
This pattern of jumper was made between 1932 and 1941 and features a buttoning cuff and twin inner pockets. Crucially, the collar is two layers of serge which pre dates the austerity pattern introduced in 1941 which features a single layer. This single layer design was introduced as an austerity measure and stayed in force throughout the rest of WW2. The jumper also features indigo coloured cotton drill lining to the cuffs.
The original owner has added his name to the interior which reads 'A. Kettle'.
The jumper is a smaller size and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 19"
Inside arm - 22 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Length - 27"
Shoulders - 14 1/2"
The jumper is in reasonable condition for its age with plenty of signs of wear and use. There are some patches and repairs and it clearly saw heavy use in its day. This has been reflected in the price but please take time to study the pictures.
An original early war example with plenty of authentic wear to it!
