Original Early WW2 Fleet Air Arm Able Seaman's 'Jumper, Serge' (2)

£100.00 Approx $126.1, €116.69

An original Early Second World War Royal Navy Ratings 'Jumper, Serge' dating from before May 1941.

This pattern of jumper was made between 1932 and 1941 and features a buttoning cuff and a single inner pocket. Crucially, the collar is two layers of serge which pre-dates the austerity pattern introduced in 1941 which features a single layer. This single layer design was introduced as an austerity measure and stayed in force throughout the rest of WW2.

The jumper features indigo coloured cotton drill linings to the cuffs and a navy blue cotton tape to the front. It is fitted with an original bullion Air Mechanic (Engines) Leading Rating badge to the right sleeve which would suggest the original owner served with the Fleet Air Arm. The fact that the badges are high quality bullion examples means this would have been a best 'walking out' top.

The jumper is a medium size and when laid flat measures -

Chest - 21 1/2"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 22"
Length - 28 1/2"
Shoulders - 20"

The jumper is in very good condition for its age with only limited signs of wear and use etc. It displays very well with no serious flaws or damage but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item.

An original early war example with a lovely bullion badge. This would make a great addition to any collection!
