An original British Royal Navy Action Working Dress Shirt dating from the 1960s.
The blue cotton Action Working Dress shirt was introduced into use with the Royal Navy in 1945. This is an updated version of that shirt dating from a decade or so later but the lineage is clear.
The shirt is made from a blue coloured cotton drill and features a full button front which fastens with large, black coloured plastic buttons. It features a stand and fall collar which has a subtle spearpoint shape to it which harks back to an earlier period. Long sleeves finish in a barrel cuff and patch pockets are located to the chest and feature flaps and covered buttons.
Inside the shirt the original label is still present and bears the title 'Shirts A/W/D MOD' and the Vocab number of 23412. The collar size is stated as 15 1/2" and the chest size as 38". The manufacturer's name of 'A. C. F Gillingham' is also present.
When laid flat the shirt measures -
Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 35"
Collar - 15 1/2"
The shirt is in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows no signs of previous wear or use and is most likely a dead stock, unissued example. It is of course a vintage item so please study the pictures before purchasing.
A nice original Royal Navy work shirt, complete with its original label and in great condition.
