SOLD

An original pair of Royal Navy Officers Blue Serge Working Dress Trousers dated 1944 and in good condition.

After much resistance from the Admiralty who were very much against the idea of officers of the Royal Navy wearing Battledress, this pattern of trousers was introduced alongside the matching blouse in January 1944. Made from a very dark blue dyed serge wool, the trousers feature slash pockets to each hip, two rear pockets, a button fly and brace buttons around the top of the waist. The trousers are cut in keeping with the fashion of the period having a high rise waist and wide leg.

The original label is still present to the rear of the trousers and is still bright and legible. The label bears the title 'Admiralty Blue Serge Working Dress Officers Trousers' and the size of No. 9. The manufacturer's name of 'H. Lottery & Co. Ltd' is located at the bottom of the label as is the date of 1944.

The trousers will suit someone of around a 34" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat measure -

Waist - 17 1/4"
Inside leg - 32" (1 1/2" extra to let down)

The trousers are in good condition and display very well. Overall they are very clean with no real signs of wear or use but do have a few moth nips to the lower portion of one of the legs and a small stain to the crotch which may come out with cleaning. These flaws are detailed in the pictures provided.

All in all a nice original pair of Royal Navy officers battledress trousers with a good clear wartime date. These would make a great addition to any collection!
