A rare original 1943 dated Royal Navy 'Coats, Duffle' in heavily worn condition.
This jacket is made from a white coloured wool which is the same as that used for the Fear Naught jackets. This same heavy wool was used for the more common duffle coats which were longer and made in a fawn colour. The jacket is designed to be worn as an outer layer and is therefore cut in a loose manner. It features a short collar, two patch pockets to the front and fastens with three wooden toggles and rope loops.
Inside the coat the original label is no longer present although the War Department stamp is. It is surmounted by the letter 'N' which denotes 1943 as the year of issue.
The coat is cut in a wide manner so will fit a range of chest sizes, depending on desired fit. It is most likely suited to a 38" - 40" chest. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 27"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 19 1/2"
Length - 28"
The coat is in heavily worn condition with lots of signs of wear and use. It still displays reasonably well and is still wearable but has lots of flaws including staining and holes. There is extensive damage to the body of the coat and notably to the rear so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.
A rare piece of British vintage military, which is a genuine wartime issued example.
