A rare original 1943 dated Royal Navy 'Coats, Duffle' in very good condition.
This jacket is made from a white coloured wool which is the same as that used for the Fear Naught jackets. This same heavy wool was used for the more common duffle coats which were longer and made in a fawn colour. The jacket is designed to be worn as an outer layer and is therefore cut in a loose manner. It features a short collar, two patch pockets to the front and fastens with three wooden toggles and rope loops.
Inside the coat the original label is present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Coats - Duffle' below which is the size of 3 which is intended to fit a 40" - 42" chest. The maker's name of 'L. Harris Ltd' is present as is the date of March 1943 and the War Department broad arrow marking. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'N' which denotes 1943 as the year of issue.
The coat is cut in a wide manner so will fit a range of chest sizes, depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 27"
Inside arm - 21 1/4"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 21"
Length - 30 1/2"
The coat is in good condition for its age with some signs of wear and use. There are no serious flaws or damage and overall it is a very wearable jacket. There is a small hole to the front of the jacket which can be seen about 3-4" below the bottom toggle in picture 3. Overall it displays well but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A rare piece of British vintage military, which is a genuine wartime issued example.
