An original 1941 Dated Royal Navy extreme cold weather cap which belonged to an officer of the Rifle Brigade.
This hat belonged to C. S. Ralli who was an officer in the Rifle Brigade who was commissioned in 1958 and served into the 1970s. Interestingly, he fitted a rifle green coloured piece of whipcord fabric over the crown to keep it looking regimental!
These hats were produced for Royal Navy crews who were serving in cold temperatures such as on the Arctic Convoys. It features a green coloured whipcord outer and seal fur trim to the fold-down ear flaps and peak. The interior features a quilted cotton lining which bears a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'P' which denotes the year of manufacture as 1941. The original owner has also added a name tag to the interior.
The overall condition of the hat is good and it displays well. There is a tear to the fur which is illustrated in picture 4 along with some other signs of age. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice original example with a Rifle Brigade connection.
