A rare original WW2 first pattern Royal Navy Duffle Coat in good, worn condition.

This pattern of coat was introduced during the early pattern of the Second World War and was replaced by the 4 strap version before the end of hostilities, making this a guaranteed wartime example. Another notable detail of these early coats is the brass press studs fitted around the edge of the hood. There is also a throat latch which fastens with two buttons at the front. The coat is made from a camel coloured boiled wool and features large patch pockets to the front and adjustable straps to each arm.

The original label is still present but is grubby meaning that no details are now legible. The measurements however correspond to a size 3 so this would have been marked to the label originally. These coats are cut in a large, oversize way as they were designed to be worn over uniform. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 28"
Inside arm - 23 1/2"
Outside arm - 26"
Shoulders - 241/2"
Length - 41 1/2"

The is in well worn condition and looks to have seen plenty of action. It is complete and still totally wearable but shows various signs of wear and age along with staining etc. One of the press studs is missing from the hood as illustrated in picture 6 and there is various staining as well as some insect damage. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn coat which has some flaws commensurate with age.

A good example of this hard to find early pattern of coat which has a fantastic worn, 'been there' look to it. Own the original!
