A scarce original 1940s  Royal Marines pattern khaki flannel collarless shirt in good condition.

This pattern of shirt is specific to the Royal Marines and much more rare than the standard British Army Pattern. It is made from a khaki green coloured flannel wool as was used by the British military for a number of years. It features a full button front and pleated pockets are located to the chest. A neckband collar is also present and is made from khaki coloured cotton drill. It has buttonholes which allow it to be worn with a detachable collar. The left breast pocket features a stitched section to create a pen holder which is a nice detail (picture 5).

Inside the shirt the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Shirts Khaki Flannel' below which is the Vocab number 71625. The collar size is marked as 15 1/2" below which it reads 'A.C.F. Chatham'. The owner has marked his name below the collar in the standard marines manner and the date of 1942 has been stamped to the collar although I believe this to be spurious.

The shirt is a smaller size which will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 21 1/2"
Inside arm - 20 3/4"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 17 1/4"
Length at back - 36 1/2"

The shirt is in good condition for its age with only limited signs of wear and use. Overall it displays well and is totally wearable with no signs of damage or other flaws. It is however a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age so please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

A rare pattern of shirt in great, wearable condition!
