An original pair of early 1970s dated Royal Air Force aircraft firefighters 'fearnaught' trousers in used condition.
This pattern of trousers was produced for a number of years and was worn with the matching fearnought jacket. They are made from a heavy blanket wool which is an off white colour and feature permanently attached braces which are stitched directly into the waist of the trousers. There is a short fly which fastens with a large, single brown coloured button.
Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. The maker's name of 'Briggs, Jones & Gibson Ltd is present as is the size of 2 and the vocab number 25302. There is also an A/78 contract number which dates the trousers to the early 1970s.
The trousers are designed to be worn as over trousers so are therefore cut in a large manner. When laid flat they measure -
Waist - 18"
Rise - 19 1/2"
Rear rise - 20"
Inside leg - 28 1/2"
Outside leg - 45"
Cuff - 8 1/2"
The trousers are in well used condition as can be seen in the pictures. The bottom of each leg has been cut up each side to allow the trousers to be easily pulled on, possibly over boots. There is staining and marks etc and some damage to the braces. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-worn pair of trousers which have some flaws commensurate with age.
A rare pair of vintage British workwear trousers with a nice clear label.
