An original British made RAF MKIII Cold Weather Flying Jacket which was made in 1983.

This pattern of jacket was introduced into service with the RAF in the 1960s and stayed in issue for decades. The jacket is made from green cotton and 'NZ' marked nickel plated zippers are fitted throughout whilst the cuffs fasten with velcro. A pen pocket is located to the upper left sleeve which has been covered with a patch of matching material and there is a velcro patch stitched to the chest to which a removable badge could be attached. Between the outer layer and the lining is a mesh liner which is intended to keep the wearer at a good temperature. There is also a large fishtail inside the jacket which is held in place with velcro.

Both the original labels are present to the interior and are bright and legible. The larger of the two is a care label and bears the title of 'Suit, Aircrew, Cold Weather Mark 3 Jacket'. The second label is the manufacturer's label which bears the size of 6, the broad arrow marking and the supply date of 1983.

The jacket is a smaller size which is designed to fit a 36" - 40" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 26 1/2"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 20"
Length - 23"

The jacket is in well worn condition with numerous flaws which are reflected in the price. The zip is no longer functioning but the jacket can be fastened with buttons instead. There are also some tears and wear around the bottom edge of the jacket etc. Overall it displays reasonably well but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has various flaws commensurate with age.

An original early 1980s example which are now becoming harder to find.
