Original 1977 Dated RAF MK3 Cold Weather Flying Jacket

Original 1977 Dated RAF MK3 Cold Weather Flying Jacket

Code: 54252

An original British made RAF MKIII Cold Weather Flying Jacket dating from 1977 and in good condition.

This pattern of jacket was introduced into service with the RAF in the 1960s and stayed in issue for decades. It is made from a ventile cotton which was popular with the RAF for many years due to its very good waterproof and windproof qualities. 'NZ' marked nickel plated zippers are fitted throughout and the cuffs fasten with velcro. A pen pocket is located to the upper left sleeve and there is a tab on the underside of the collar which allows it to be fastened around the wearer's neck.

Both the original labels are present to the interior and are bright and legible. The larger of the two is a care label and bears the title of 'Suit, Aircrew, Cold Weather Mark 3 Jacket'. The second label is the manufacturer's label which bears the size of 5, the broad arrow marking and the manufacture date of 1977.

What is particularly nice is that the jacket retains its hood and fold down bum flap, but also the orange identification bib inside the collar. These are nearly always removed as they can be hard to repack once folded out which make this a particularly excellent example. The bib was to be used in case of emergency whilst on the ground as it would help to be identified easily at a great distance.

The jacket is in good condition for its age and is still very wearable. It does have limited signs of wear and age which are to be expected. Overall it displays well but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original late 1970s example which are now becoming harder to find.
