An original pair of 'Shorts Man's Tropical RAF' dating from the 1970s.
This pattern of shorts was introduced replacing the early 100% cotton type previously in issue. This pattern is made from a cotton mix which contains man-made fibres which give the shorts a shiny sheen. They feature a twin pleated front, slash pockets to the hips and waist adjusters to each side. There is a single rear pocket located to the rear.
Inside the shorts the original label is still present and bears the title and the size of 13. The manufacturer's name of 'H. Edgard & Sons Ltd'. Below this is the A/78 contract number which dates the shorts to the early 1970s.
The shorts will suit around a 32" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat they measure -
Waist - 16"
Rise - 13"
Rear rise - 15 1/2"
Inside leg - 5 1/2"
Outside leg - 17 1/2"
Cuff - 11"
The shorts are in good condition and are still totally wearable. There is no damage but there is some staining as illustrated in the pictures.
