SOLD

An original RAF Officers Service Dress Jacket and trousers made by 'R. E. City Ltd' in 1968 for John Terry Tuckey who had a long career in the RAF. He joined in the late 1940s and served through to the late 1980s.

This Cold War era suit more or less follows the same pattern as all RAF Officers Service dress featuring two pleated breast pockets, two lower bellows pockets and a waist belt. Squadron Leader rank has been applied to the cuff and a lovely, padded Queen's crown pilots wing is located above the left breast pocket. The trousers feature waist adjusters as well as a period 'Lightening' brand zipper to the fly. This style of zip is commonly seen on 1950s and 1960s clothing.

The interior of the jacket bears the manufacturer's label which reads 'R. E. City Ltd London and Branches'. Inside the interior pocket is another label which again bears the maker's name, the owner's name and the date May 1968.

The suit is a medium size which should fit a 40" - 41" chest well. When laid flat it measures -

Jacket
Chest - 22 1/2"
Waist - 18 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 1/4"
Outside arm - 26"
Length - 31"
Shoulders - 19 1/2"

Trousers
Waist - 18 1/2"
Inside leg - 32"

The suit is in heavily worn condition with plenty of signs of age and use. There is staining to both the jacket and trousers and the trousers feature repairs including to the knee. The suit is still wearable but please study the pictures before purchasing as this is a well worn example.

An original example with a lovely pilot's wing.
