An original pair of 1956 dated Royal Air Force aircraft firefighters 'fearnaught' trousers in used condition.
This pattern of trousers was produced for a number of years and was worn with the matching fearnought jacket. They are made from a heavy blanket wool which is an off white colour and feature permanently attached braces which are stitched directly into the waist of the trousers. There is a short fly which fastens with a large, single white coloured plastic button.
Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. The maker's name of 'F. W. Harmer & Co ltd is present as is the size of 3 and the vocab number 25303. The 1956 date is also present as is the War Department broad arrow.
The trousers are designed to be worn as over trousers so are therefore cut in a large manner. When laid flat they measure -
Waist - 19 3/4"
Rise - 15 1/2"
Rear rise - 21 1/2"
Inside leg - 31"
Outside leg - 45"
Cuff - 9"
The trousers are in well used condition as can be seen in the pictures. The bottom of each leg has been cut up each side to allow the trousers to be easily pulled on, possibly over boots. There is stainingand marks and the numbers '1.2' have been added to the rear. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that these are a vintage, pre-worn pair of trousers which have some flaws commensurate with age.
A rare pair of 1950s British workwear trousers with a nice clear label.
