Original 1954 Dated RAF Extreme Cold Weather Trousers - Size 1

Original 1954 Dated RAF Extreme Cold Weather Trousers - Size 1

Code: 55050

A scarce pair of original 1954 dated RAF Extreme Cold Weather Trousers in good condition.

Officially designated 'Overalls, Trousers, Ground Crew, Extreme Cold Weather With Detachable Lining', these trousers were designed to be worn with the matching MK1 Cold Weather Jacket which is often referred to as the 'Ventile Smock'. These examples are made from the rare green colour of ventile cotton and feature two large patch pockets to the front of each thigh. The fly fastens with an 'Aero' branded zipper which is typically found on British military clothing during this period. There are drawstrings to each cuff which allow the cuffs to be pulled tight around a boot and there are loops around the waist to which braces can be attached.

Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title, below which is the size of 1. The maker's name of 'Peta Roy Fashions Ltd' is also present as is the 1954 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. Adjacent to this is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'M' which is correct for 1954.

The trousers come complete with their matching removable lining which button into the interior of the trousers. They also feature a label which is in good condition and bright and legible. It bears the same maker, size and manufacture year as the trousers so are a true match. There is also a War Department acceptance stamp which is again surmounted by the letter 'M'.

The trousers are the smallest size produced and are intended to fit a 28" - 30" waist although will fit larger. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 18"
Rise - 15"
Rear rise - 17"
Inside leg - 28 1/2"
Outside leg - 41 1/2"
Cuff - 10 1/2"

The trousers are in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are some signs of wear and use and limited staining. Overall they display well and are totally wearable with no damage or flaws but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A rare pair of 1950s RAF trousers with some fantastic details and complete with all the correct labels and stamps.
