An original RAF officers shirt in good condition which was made by 'Van Heusen' during the 1950s.
This pattern of shirt was worn by RAF officers for many years. It is the full buttoning front style which began to come into use during the Second World War before eventually replacing the half-placket style completely by the 1960s. This example features a neckband collar to which a detachable collar can be fitted. The cuffs are French style which fold back on themselves and are worn with cufflinks.
Inside the shirt the original label is still present and is still very clear and bright stating 'Van Heusen 'Service' brand Made in England'. The neckband also bears markings including the collar size which is 16 1/2".
The shirt is a larger size which will fit up to a 44" chest. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 25"
Inside arm - 24"
Outside arm - 27 1/2"
Shoulders - 19 1/2"
Length - 36"
Collar - 16 1/2"
The sleeve measurement is taken with the cuff folded out. If the cuff is doubled back in the correct manner it will measure roughly 2 1/4" shorter.
The shirt is in good condition but does have some limited signs of wear and use. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-owned, vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
Overall a nice original shirt which is in good wearable condition and has a nice period label.
Inside the shirt the original label is still present and is still very clear and bright stating ' Van Heusen 'Service' brand. The neckband also bares markings including 'RAF' and the collar size which is 15 1/2" which would be worn with a 16" detachable collar.
