An original 1948 Dated Royal Air Force Ordinary Airman's Tunic Dated 1948 and in a size No 6.
Whilst this tunic is dated 1948 it is identical to those worn throughout the Second World War by all RAF airmen up to the rank of Flight Sergeant as both a working dress and a walking out uniform.
This particular example features brass Kings crown RAF buttons as well as wartime economy printed shoulder badges and semi embroidered Leading Aircraftman badges below these.
Inside the jacket retains its original issue label which states the size as No. 6 which is intended to fit someone of around a 38-39" chest and 35" waist. The manufacturer's name is stated as 'Claude Alexander Ltd' below which is the 1948 date and the War Department broad arrow.
When laid flat the tunic measures -
Chest - 19 1/2"
Waist - 17"
Inside arm - 17"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length - 29"
The tunic is in good condition and displays well but does have a couple of small areas of damage to the serge material which is illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice original example with wartime badges which could suit a collector or re-enactor well.
