Original Early 1960s Boxed RAF Officer's Peaked Cap by 'Bates'

Code: 55924

£110.00 Approx $138.02, €128.21

An original Royal Air Force officer's peaked cap made by 'Bates' in the very late 1950s or early 1960s, complete with its original box.

This style of cap was worn by RAF officer's for many years and is still in use today. The body of the cap is made from RAF blue grey coloured barathea wool as is the peak. An original Queen's crown cap badge is fitted to the front and there is a black mohair band round around the circumference of the cap. A black coloured patent chin strap is also present and is held onto the cap with two cloth covered buttons..

Inside the cap is lined and features a leather sweatband which the original owner has marked his name in ink as 'G. A. Mills'. The Bates label is still present and below this the style name of 'Flight Weight'.

The cap is a smaller size measuring at 21 1/2" which equates to a UK size 6 3/4 but fits me well at a 6 7/8.

The condition of the cap is very good and it displays well. There are only very limited signs of wear and use and overall it displays well and would be hard to better. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

The cap comes complete with it's original cardboard box which bears the original owner's name and address as well as the Bates graphics. It states '60 years on Jermyn Street' which the business moved into in 1898 which suggests the cap dates from 1958 or just after. The overall condition of the box is good with some signs of age etc.

A very nice Jet Age era peaked cap from a prestigious maker!
