An original British made RAF MKIII Cold Weather Flying Jacket dating from 1977 which is in good condition.

This pattern of jacket was introduced into service with the RAF in the 1960s and stayed in issue for decades. It is made from a green coloured cotton which was popular with the RAF for many years due to its very good waterproof and windproof qualities. 'NZ' marked nickel plated zippers are fitted throughout and the cuffs fasten with velcro. A pen pocket is located to the upper left sleeve and there is a tab on the underside of the collar which allows it to be fastened around the wearer's neck. The jacket has been fitted with an army pilots wing which appears to be original to the jacket which is a nice feature.

Both the original labels are present to the interior and are bright and legible. The larger of the two is a care label and bears the title of 'Suit, Aircrew, Cold Weather Mark 3 Jacket'. The second label is the manufacturer's label which bears the size of 7, the broad arrow marking and the manufacture date of 1977.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 24"
Inside arm - 22 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 19"
Length at rear - 24"

The jacket is in good condition for its age and is still very wearable. It does have some signs of wear and age which are to be expected of an issued flying jacket of this vintage. There is a period repair to the left sleeve and a small hole to the front as illustrated in the pictures. Overall it displays well but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original late 1970s example which are now becoming harder to find.
