An original pair of 1950s Dutch frog skin camouflage trousers which are in used condition.
This distinctive pattern of camouflage trousers were produced for the Dutch military during the immediate post-war period and are based closely on contemporary Allied combat and fatigue trouser designs. They are manufactured from a mid-weight cotton twill printed in the well-known “frog skin” camouflage pattern, consisting of irregular organic shapes in muted greens, browns and sand tones, designed to break up the outline of the wearer in woodland and scrub environments. This pattern was first used by the US military during the Second World War and the similarity is quite clear.
The trousers are of a straight cut with a high rise and wide leg, typical of 1950s military tailoring. They feature large cargo pockets to each thigh with button-fastened flaps. These feature an inverted pleat to allow them to expand which is another direct copy of wartime US fatigue trousers. Belt loops are located to the waist and the fly fastens with buttons.
The trousers will suit a 35" waist and when laid flat they measure –
Waist - 17 1/2"
Rise - 12 1/2"
Rear rise - 17 1/2"
Inside leg - 30 1/2"
Outside leg - 42"
Cuff - 10 1/2"
The trousers are in used condition but are still totally wearable. There are a number or repairs which are illustrated in the pictures as well as some staining. Please take time to study the photographs carefully before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a pre-worn pair of 1950s military trousers which may have other small issues commensurate with their age.
A scarce and highly collectible pair of post-war Dutch camouflage trousers which are a good, wearable size.
