A heavily worn original 1950s French Army Model 1947 Combat Jacket.
This pattern of tunic was introduced in the immediate post-war years and saw service in Indochina and the Algerian War amongst other places.
The tunic is made from a heavy weight, green coloured cotton herringbone twill and features a full button front. The front of the jacket features chest pockets and lower pockets (removed) whilst epaulettes are located to the shoulders. The cuff features a tab which fastens with chocolate brown buttons. The same buttons are used to fasten the front, the pockets and to secure the epaulettes. There is also a throat latch to the underside of the collar which helps to fasten the collar securely around the wearer's neck. Inside the jacket the original size label is present but has been washed out.
The tunic will suit around a 36" chest and possibly larger. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 20 1/2"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length - 29"
The jacket is in well worn condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows signs of wear and age with staining, holes and general signs of wear. These are reflected in the price but please study the pictures provided before purchasing as this is a vintage item.
