A fantastic original in-country theatre made French M41 style combat jacket dating from the 1940s.
This jacket was made during the Indochina war sometime in the 1940s or early 1950s. It is clearly in-country made and has been based on the United States Army M1941 Combat Jacket which was produced during the Second World War. The silhouette of this jacket is the same as the US Army jackets with open faced collar, slash pockets to the front and half belt and action back to the rear. It even has the same adjuster tabs at the waist and cuffs. It is made from a darker coloured green cotton than the US version but is typical of the period. The front fastens with a brass 'Eclair' brand zip which is a common zip to find on French jackets from this period. The buttons are also typical of theatre made items with the lowest front button being a replacement.
The jacket will suit around a 38" chest and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 23 1/2"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 20 3/4"
Length - 27"
The jacket is in good condition and displays well. It is still very wearable with some period repairs and light staining. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A really nice original theatre made jacket with some great details.
