Rare Original 1950 Dated 1949 Pattern Khaki Drill Trousers - Size 20

Code: 54906

SOLD

An original pair of 1949 Pattern British Khaki Drill Trousers in good condition, dated 1950 and in a large size 20.

Whilst at first glance these trousers look like the standard 1950 Pattern Khaki Drill Trousers, they are infact the much rare 1949 pattern which do not feature rear pockets. This pattern of trousers with the cross belt waist came into issue with British forces in 1944. It stayed in use well into the 1970s under different designations including '1949 Pattern' and '1950 pattern'. The waist belt was designed to be adjustable to account for the wear losing weight in hot climates. This style is now often referred to as 'Gurkha pants'.

The trousers are made from the standard khaki coloured cotton drill used for British KD items during the Second World War as well as in the following two decades. They are cut with a high rise waist and the fly fastens with butterscotch coloured plastic buttons whilst the waist belts fasten with single prong metal buckles which are held onto the trousers with more plastic buttons. The front of the trousers features twin pleats and a large map pocket is located to the left leg.

Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is still bright and legible. It bears the title 'Trousers Khaki Drill 1949 Pattern' along with the size of 20, the 1950 date and the War Department broad arrow. The manufacturer's name of 'J. Compton, Sons & Webb, Ltd' is also present. The War Department acceptance stamp can be found adjacent to this and is surmounted by the letter 'A'.

The trousers will suit around a 36" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat measure -

Waist - 18"
Rise - 16"
Rear rise - 20"
Inside leg - 29 1/2"
Outside leg - 42 1/2"
Cuff - 11 1/2"

The trousers are in excellent condition with no signs of wear or use. They are quite possibly deadstock and unworn as they display very well indeed. Please study the pictures and remember that these are a vintage, pre owned pair of trousers, which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original pair of trousers in a highly sought-after style and hard to find larger size.
