An original pair of British military physical training shorts, often referred to as 'P.T Shorts'.
This pattern of shorts was used for many years in both the British Army and Royal Air Force and are the pattern issued during the 1940s and 1950s. Made from a deep blue cotton, the short feature and elasticated waist and a short button fly which fastens with black plastic buttons - the same style as found on RAF War Service Dress.
Inside the shorts retain their original label which is washed out leaving most of the details illegible. The title 'Shorts Gymnasium' is visible as is the War Department broad arrow. The date however isn't meaning it is impossible to date them exactly.
Due to their elasticated waist the shorts will fit a number of waist sizes from a 28" waist to a 34" waist. When laid flat they measure -
Waist (relaxed) - 28"
Waist (stretched) - 17"
Rise - 12 1/2"
Rear rise - 15 1/2"
Inside leg - 6 1/2"
Outside leg - 17"
The shorts are in good condition with signs of wear and use. They are still very wearable and display well.
Altogether a nice pair of original period shorts.
