A scarce original British 1960 Pattern DPM Combat Smock in good condition and a larger size 3.
This pattern of combat jacket is the predecessor of the 1968 DPM combat jacket and is noticeably different to the later pattern. It features a plethora of different details, most notable of which is the concentric stitched collar. Other details only found on this pattern include the pen pocket on the left breast pocket and the pleated lower pockets. The smock features a brass zipper which is maker marked 'AZF' denoting Aero Zipper Fasteners as the maker. This is situated behind a button fly front and there are reinforced elbow patches and a barrel cuff which fastens with a button.
Inside the smock both the original labels are still present. The issue label is very washed out but some details can be made out in certain light including the size of 3. A second label can be found to the skirt and bears information which relates to washing and care.
The jacket is cut in a loose, smock-like cut which is designed to be worn over clothing and still allow for free movement. It will suit around a 36" - 38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 22"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 23"
Shoulders - 19"1/2
Length - 28"
The smock is in good condition with signs of wear and use. It has clearly been laundered and there is some fading as well as some light staining and marks. There is wear around the edge of each cuff and one has had a button replaced with a period example. Overall the jacket displays well and is totally wearable with a great used look to it. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a pre-worn vintage jacket which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A really nice example of this rare pattern of combat smock!
