An original British Army Windproof Cadet Smock in a large size 5 which is in excellent condition.
Officially designated 'Smock Windproof Green Cadet Forces (AD), these smocks were based on the Blacks standard anorak and saw extensive use throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Made from a green coloured, tight weave cotton; this smock features a large pocket to the centre of the chest which seals with velcro, two lower patch pockets which fasten with buttons a white nylon drawstring to the waist and another to the hood. The hood features a short zip with chrome plated puller which is marked 'Lightning'. Inside the anorak is a tab and button which can be fastened between the wearer's legs, similar to the fish tail of the denison smock.
Inside the smock the original label is still present and is bright and legible. The size of 5 is present as is the A78 contract number which dates the smock to the early-mid 1970s. The maker's name of 'J. Compton Son & Webb Ltd' is also present.
The smock is a large size which is designed to fit a 40" - 44" chest and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 27 1/2"
Inside arm - 23"
Outside arm - 28"
Length - 34"
Shoulders - 25"
The overall condition of the smock is good with some limited signs of wear and use. It is still very wearable with no major flaws and is very clean and fresh on the whole. It is a vintage item so may have small flaws commensurate with age. Please bear this in mind and take time to study the pictures.
A nice example of this pattern of smock in a good size. These are quickly becoming very sought-after!
