Original 1968 Dated 1960 Pattern Combat Smock - Size - 9

Original 1968 Dated 1960 Pattern Combat Smock - Size - 9

Code: 52429

An original 1968 dated 1960 pattern combat smock in a size 9 an excellent condition.

This pattern of smock was introduced in the early 1960s and replaced the earlier Sateen combat smock. It is the for-runner to the famous 1968 pattern combat smock issued throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Notable features of this earlier smock is the flat green colour and the stitched collar.

The smock is made from a dark olive green coloured cotton sateen and features patch pockets to the chest and lower patch pockets which have an invert pleat to allow them to expand. Long sleeves end in a buttoning barrel cuff whilst the elbow features a double layer reinforcement. The left breast pocket features a stitched section to allow a pen to be held. The zipper is a metal example marked 'NZ'.

Inside the jacket is a large poachers style pocket to the bottom which fastens with a single button. Both the waist and bottom drawstrings are still present as is the original label. The label bears the title 'Smock, Combat 1960 Pattern' and the maker's name of 'Cookcon & Clegg Ltd'. The 1968 date is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking and the 78A contract number. The size is stated as No. 9 L. Large,  which is designed to fit someone between the height of 5' 11" and 6' 2" with a chest size between 43" and 46".

When laid flat the jacket measures -

Chest - 26 3/4"
Inside arm -21"
Outside arm - 28"
Shoulders - 21 1/2"
Length - 34 1/2"

The smock is in excellent condition and appears to be an un-worn new old stock example. The smock has a very bright appearance with the fabric still retaining its sheen which it would have had when first issued. This has clearly not been washed and washed like many examples seen today! The only flaw I can find is a couple of light marks to the collar as shown in the pictures. Please study the pictures before purchasing as this is a vintage item.

A very clean original example in a hard to find large size and excellent condition. This would be very hard to better!
