Code: 54918

An original British RAF khaki drill aertex shirt dating from 1965 which is in good condition.

The label in this shirt features the RAF 22E stores number which means it was originally produced as part of a contract for the Royal Air Force. It is typical of shirts made during the 1950s and 1960s for the British military being made from a tan khaki coloured cellular cotton. This material is often referred to as 'Aertex' and was popular with the military during this period due to its lightweight and breathable nature. The shirt features a full button front and pleated chest pockets which also fasten with buttons. Epaulettes are fitted to each shoulder and the collar features a spearpoint shape as was popular in the 1940s and into the 1950s.

Inside the neck of the shirt the original label is present and is bright and legible. It bears the maker's name of 'Ladybird Belfast' who were a prolific maker of shirts for the British military in the mid Century period. Below this is the collar size of 17 the RAF stores code number 22E 892, The War Department broad arrow marking and the 1965 date.

The shirt is a large size which will suit up to a 42" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 24"
Inside arm - 22 3/4"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 3/4"
Length at back - 36"
Collar - 17"

The shirt is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. There are some signs of wear and use but overall it displays well with one small hole to the front as illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original 1960s RAF shirt in a hard to find larger size.
