An original 1959 Dated slouch hat in a size 6 5/8 which comes complete with Scottish regimental insignia.
Slouch hats were introduced into service during the Second World War and are now an iconic piece of headwear which is associated with British and Commonwealth soldiers. This example dates from the late 1950s and was worn by a member of a Scottish regiment.
The hat is made from a green coloured fur felt and has the ability to have one half of the brim fastened to the crown with a press stud. A puggaree is fitted around the base of the crown and a piece of Mackenzie tartan cloth along with a red and white hackle.
Inside the hat there is a leather sweatband which bears part of the maker's name along with the style name of 'Atherstone'. The 1959 date is also present as is the size of 6 5/8. The original leather chin strap is also still present and is adjusted with a brass buckle.
The hat is in used condition with various signs of wear and age. There are various areas of moth grazing as is evident in the pictures and some signs of age to the leather sweatband. Overall it displays fairly well but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which has some flaws commensurate with age.
A nice original hat which could make a good addition to a collection.
