SOLD

An original pair of British Denim Battledress Trousers dated 1955 and in a size 5.

This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army during the Second World War and remained standard issue well into the 1950s. These trousers were used for fatigues and are made from a green denim sanforized cotton, typical of that used for workwear in the mid century period. Based on the serge battledress design, these trousers feature a map pocket to the left leg, a first field dressing pocket to the right hip and slash pockets in the usual place in each side seam. They are cut with a high rise and wide leg as were all men's clothes during this period.

This particular pair still retains their original manufacturer's label to the interior. It states the size as No. 5 which is designed to fit someone with a 31 - 33" waist. It is important to remember that these are designed to fit over the wool battledress trousers so need to be worn oversize for an authentic fit. When laid flat they measure -

Waist - 17 1/2"
Rise - 17"
Rear rise - 18 1/2"
Inside leg - 31 1/2"
Outside leg - 46"
Cuff - 9 1/2"

The label also bears the manufacturer's name of 'Mourne Clothing' and the War Department broad arrow marking. The 1955 date is also present.

The trousers are in good condition for their age and appear to have seen some use. They have some marks and stains but overall look good and are still very wearable. There is a small hole to the inside of each leg as pictured although this is only really noticable on close insepection. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that these are a pre-owned pair of vintage work trousers which have some small issues commensurate with this.

A nice original pair of denim trousers in a good condition and complete with their original label.
