SOLD

An original pair of British Military 1950 Pattern Jungle Green shorts dated 1954 and in a size No. 5.

This pattern of shorts is the same as the Khaki Drill version which was introduced at the tail end of the Second World War. They saw service for a number of years with the British Army and RAF. This style with the cross belt fastening is now often referred to as 'Gurkha Shorts'. The shorts are made from a green dyed cotton drill and feature a button fly and slash pockets to the hips whilst twin pockets can be found to the rear. The waist fastens with nonstandard chromium plated grip buckles.

Inside the shorts retain their original maker's label which bears the title of 'Shorts Drill Green 1950 Pattern'. The size is marked as 5 which is designed to fit a 30" - 32" waist and the makers name of 'G. Greenway & Co. Ltd' is also present. Below this is the 1954 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

Due to the style of the waistband the shorts are slightly adjustable. When fastened on the loosest setting they measure -

Waist - 15"
Rise - 15"
Rear rise - 16 1/2"
Inside leg - 7 1/2"
Outside leg - 20 1/2"
Cuff - 13"

The shorts are in good condition and are still very wearable with only limted signs of wear and age. Please study the pictures provided and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-owed item.

All in all a nice pair of original 1950 pattern shorts which would make a great addition to any collection.
