Original 1951 Dated Trousers, Drill Green - Size 12

SOLD

A rare pair of original 1950 pattern Drill Green trousers in good condition which were made in Hong Kong in 1951.

This pattern of cross belt waist closure first came into issue with British forces in 1944. It stayed in use well into the 1970s under different designations including '1950 pattern' which is what this pattern is. The waist belt was designed to be adjustable to account for the wearer losing weight in hot climates and is now often referred to as 'Gurkha pants'.

Whilst the trousers look like standard 1950 pattern trousers, these trousers differ from the standard British made versions in a number of ways. They are made from a cotton drill material which is much lighter in weight and softer than found with those made in the UK. As well as this the stitching is noticeably different and has a lovely contrast against the cotton drill due to the light colour it has been dyed. The fly and pocket buttons are the standard green plastic type used during this period and the waist buckles are original chromium plated examples. The trousers feature two rear pockets and a map pocket is present to the left leg.

Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is still legible. It bears the title of 'Trousers Drill Green S.C.C.5  and the maker's name of 'HongKong Underwear Factory MFG Co.'. The 1951 date and War Department broad arrow marking is also present as is the size which is stated as No. 12. When laid flat the trousers measure -

Waist - 16 3/4"
Rise - 15"
Rear rise - 18"
Inside leg - 25"
Outside leg - 38"
Cuff - 10"

The trousers are in good condition with some signs of age and wear. All the buttons are present as are the metal waist buckles and the overall condition is good. There are a couple of very small holes to the front and some wear to the seat which is detailed in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures and remember that these are a pre-owned, vintage pair of trousers which may have small issues commensurate with age.

An early example of this hard to find pattern of trousers, complete with a great label!
