A rare original Irish Caubeen cap as worn by various Irish regiments, dated 1951.
This pattern of cap was approved for use in a varity of regiments for many years. There are wartime photographs showing this in use and they stayed in issue for many years after the war. This example dates from the immediate post-war period and is made from a rifle green coloured wool in the typically large Caubeen style. The interior is fully lined and features the makers name of 'Denham (1933) Ltd', the size of 7 and the 1951 date. Below this is the War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'O'.
The hat is in good condition overall with some signs of wear and use. There is a small hole where a cap badge has been fitted previously but altogether it displays.
A rare piece of regimental headwear which would make a great addition to any British Army collection!
