An original British officers Jungle Green Bush jacket dating from the 1950s.

This shirt is clearly a theatre made example as is often the case with JG items. The shirt is of typical period construction being made of a JG coloured cotton drill and features pleated breast pockets with scaloped pocket flaps, a stand and fall collar, full buttoning front and epaulettes to each shoulder which show signs of where rank badges have been fitted previously. Bellows pockets are fitted to the skirt and all the button holes are hand stitched as is common to find with theatre made items. The shirt has been starched as was commonly done during this period giving the shirt a stiff feel which is designed to make the shirt look smart. The sleeves have been starched in the rolled up position, again for smartness. Starched can be washed out if the next owner wants a soft cotton feel instead.

Being a theatre made example which is quite likely private purchase, the jacket does not feature and labels or stamps. It was almost certainly made during the 1950s but could certainly pass as earlier.

The shirt is a medium size which should comfortably fit a 38" chest. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 21 1/2"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length - 33"

The jacket is in reasonable condition for its age with no serious damage or flaws. There are various stains of signs of use but the shirt appears to still be totally wearable. The button which fastens one of the lower bellows pockets is brokenb as detailed in picture 4. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage shirt which may have other small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original early 1950s military shirt with some nice details.
