An original British Army Officers green poplin shirt made by Van Heusen and dating from the 1950s.

This shirt is typical of those made in the 1950s for officer's in the British Army. It is made from a light green poplin cotton and features a neckband collar which would be worn with a matching detachable collar as well as a plain barrel cuff which fastens with a single button. The shirt features a full button front - a style that started to gain popularity during the Second World War, eventually replacing the earlier half placket shirts in the post-war period.

The original label is still present inside the shirt and is still bright and legible. It features the classic 'Van Heusen Service Brand' label which bears the words 'Made in England'.

The shirt will fit around a 38" - 40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 23"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length at front - 31 1/2"
Length at back - 34 1/2"
Collar - 15"

The shirt is in very good condition overall and is still totally wearable. There are no real signs of wear or use and overall it displays very well. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original mid century shirt made from a lovely poplin cotton material.
