An original 1948 dated 1944 pattern British Army collared shirt made by 'Kenunex' and in nice condition.
This pattern of shirt came into issue in late 1944 to replace the earlier collarless shirt worn by all Ordinary Ranks. British army dress regulations changed at this time to allow a shirt and tie to be worn under the battledress blouse, hence the issue of these collar-attached shirts.
The shirt is made from a khaki green coloured wool and features a half placket front, designed to be pulled on over the head of the wearer. This style was replaced in 1949 for a new pattern which featured a fully buttoning front making this a very late example of a tunic front shirt. The shirt features a typically 1940s spearpoint collar and barrel cuffs which fasten with a single button.
Inside the shirt the original label is still present and states the manufacturer as 'Kenunex' who were a prolific maker of this pattern of shirt during the late 1940s. The 1948 date is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking and the size of 4.
The shirt will fit someone of around a 38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 22 "
Inside arm - 21 3/4"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Length at front - 33"
Length at back - 37"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Collar - 16"
The shirt is in very good condition with only limited signs of wear and use. It displays very well but is a vintage, pre-owned item so may have small issues commensurate with age.
Overall, an excellent original British Army shirt from the immediate post-war years with a fantastic label!
