A scarce original 1955 pattern 'Jumpers, Heavy' in good condition which was made in 1968. It belonged to a member of the 14th/20th King Hussars and was most likely issued at Barker Barracks in Paderborn, Germany; or when the regiment moved to Tidworth Camp in 1970 where it deployed units to Northern Ireland during The Troubles.

This pattern of Jumper came into issue during the Second World War and is often referred to as the 'Commando' sweater. It went through a number of design changes in the early 1950s which resulted in this 4th pattern which was produced into the 1960s. The jumper is made from a khaki green coloured wool in a ribbed pattern and features tan coloured cotton drill elbow patches and shoulder patches. Epaulettes are fitted to each shoulder and made from the same material and the cuffs and neck opening also feature cotton drill material. A drawstring is present to the neck and the original plastic buttons which fasten the epaulettes have been swapped with 14th/20th Hussar pattern regimental buttons.

Inside the jumper the original label is still present and all the details are still legible. It bears the maker's name of 'Pick' with the classic graphics used by this company during this period. The size of 4 is also present as is the 1968 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

The jumper is a small to medium size which will suit around a 38" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 18 1/2" (pulls out to 20 1/2")
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 21"
Shoulders - 19"
Length - 24"

The condition of the jumper is good for its age and it displays well. Overall it is wearable but there are a couple of small holes which are illustrated in the pictures as well as another to the elbow. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has some flaws commensurate with age.

Altogether a good example of this scarce pattern of jumper which aside from a few small flaws displays very well.
