An original British Army Officers green poplin shirt dating from 1958.

This shirt is typical of those made in the 1950s for officers in the British Army. It is made from a light green coloured poplin cotton and features a neckband collar which can be worn with a matching detachable collar. It has a plain barrel cuff which fastens with a single button and features a full button front. This style started to gain popularity during the Second World War, eventually replacing the earlier half fronted shirts in the post-war period.

The original label is still present inside the shirt and is bright and legible. It bears the maker's name of 'Faulat, Belfast' below which is the size of 2 and the collar size of 14 1/2. There is also a War Department acceptance stamp to the tail of the shirt which is surmounted by the letter 'F' which confirms 1958 as the year of issue.

The shirt is a smaller size and it is important to remember that they are designed to be worn reasonably loose so as to allow movement etc. It will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 21 1/2"
Inside arm - 19 1/4"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 16 1/4"
Length at back - 32"
Collar - 14 1/2"

The shirt is in very good condition and does not appear to have seen much wear. It displays very well but please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original mid century shirt made from a lovely poplin cotton!
