An original Second World War period watercolour of a British Army officer painted by W. J. Rowden.
W. J. Rowden was an artist during the mid Century period and more of his works can be found at www.artworkuk.org. He had a very distinctive style and this portrait is very striking. It is of a young officer with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes who is dressed in his Service Dress. It has been suggested that the man in the picture is Kenneth Jarrett of Woodbridge in Suffolk, although I have no evidence of this.
The painting is paper mounted on board and measures 38cm x 30cm.
A striking period portrait!
