An original British Army 1908 pattern large pack in good issued condition which dates from the Great War.
This pattern of large pack was produced during the first part of the First World War. The most notable attribute which dates the pack is the inclusion of the rivets at the rear which support the main tabs (picture 3). These were deleted around 1916/17 depending on manufacturer and help to date the pack to being made prior to this point. Part of the maker's stamp is present to the underside of the pack and the first two initials of 'M. W.' are present although the rest, along with the date, are no longer legible.
Two supporting straps are included with the pack and based on the condition and patina look to have been fitted to the pack for an extremely long time. The brass hardware has tarnished in the same way as the parts on the pack and has a typical look to it when compared with other Great War period webbing. There are no legible dates to the straps but one bears the maker's name of 'MECo'.
The pack is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It has plenty of signs of wear and age but has a good, honest look to it and it displays well.
