A fantastic original French Chore Jacket made from a black moleskin material during the 1930s.

This type of jacket is synonymous with northern European artisans, workers and labourers of the mid-century period and is arguably the most iconic jacket ever produced in France. Based on the wooden buttons and early graphics on the label, this example dates from the 1930s.

The jacket is made from a lovely black coloured moleskin material which is heavy yet soft to the touch and has a sheen to it. The collar of the jacket is typical in shape and size of those found on 1930s and 1940s chore jackets. The jacket features a small patch pocket to the breast and two larger patch pockets to the skirt. Most of the buttons are the original wooden examples with a couple being period replacements, such as the top button.

Inside the jacket there is a single interior pocket to which the original label is affixed. It bears the maker's name and typical period graphics which date from the pre Second World War period.

The jacket is a large size which will suit a 40" chest well. When laid flat it  measures -

Chest - 23”
Inside arm - 22”
Outside arm - 25 1/2”
Shoulders - 18 1/2”
Length - 29”

The condition of the jacket is reasonable considering it is a vintage work piece. It has some flaws and defects including wear to the cuffs as pictured. There is some staining which may come out with careful cleaning and the corner of the lower right pocket has pulled as illustrated in picture 6. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn workwear jacket which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A good original example with lots of character and made from the highly desirable black moleskin material.
