An original Air Raid Precautions beret dating from 1942 in a size large.
This pattern of beret was used throughout the Second World War by the ARP and Civil defence by men and women of a variety of ranks. It is made from the black wool used in WW2 rather than the post-war navy coloured material.
The interior features a simple lining which is glued into the hat. It bears the designation A.R.P 68 below which is the War Department broad arrow marking and the size of 'L'. The maker's name of 'S.M.C Ltd' is also present as is the date of 1942.
The overall condition of the beret is good and it displays well. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a pre-owned, vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
Altogether a nice example of a wartime ARP beret with good markings to the interior.
