An original Girl Guides Brownie uniform dating from the 1940s and in good condition.
This shirt dress is the standard uniform worn by Brownies from the 1930s and through to the end of the 1950s. This example dates from the 1940s making it ideal for a wartime Home Front collector.
The dress is made from a brown colouerd cotton drill material and is cut in an A line shape. It features a stand and fall collar and a typical 1940s style large collar. Two pleated pockets are located to the chest whilst barrel cuffs fasten with buttons. The dress comes complete with its original badges including the Brass 'Brownies Promise' pixie badge and woven patch. Inside the collar the original label is still present and is typical of the period.
When laid flat the dress measures -
Chest - 18"
Inside arm - 16"
Outside arm - 19"
Length - 31 1/2"
Shoulders - 14 3/4"
The dress is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It only shows limited signs of age and wear and overall it displays very well.
The dress comes complete with its yellow tie which is also in good condition.
A nice 1940s uniform which would make a good addition to a Home Front collection or similar!
